Energy: Prosperity Through a New National Grid

Ms. Eisenhower’s visit to the West Virginia Roundtable was also covered by the Charleston Gazette:

Government agencies and private businesses must cooperate to build a new national grid to transmit electricity – generated by diverse sources – efficiently and effectively across the nation.

That’s from Susan Eisenhower, chairwoman of the Eisenhower Strategy Forum, which counsels some of the nation’s biggest companies about energy.

“It will help to bring America not only into the 21st century, but into a new era of prosperity,” Eisenhower said.

“Our new president has an array of astonishing, and often frightening, challenges,” she added “Building an electric grid will provide American jobs.”

Building a national “green grid” is also an opportunity to help the national economy.

“And we cannot continue to move electricity – generated by coal, oil, gas, nuclear and renewables – without this. Our future depends on access to all these resources.”

Energy: Now Is the Time to Upgrade the Nation’s Grid

Susan Eisenhower’s speech at the West Virginia Roundtable was also covered by the State Journal:

Getting electricity from one place to another more efficiently is a necessary challenge the United States must undertake and now might be the perfect time to do so.

Eisenhower is chairwoman of the Eisenhower Strategy Forum and has studied energy throughout her career. For the past several years, much of her focus has been on the nation’s aging electrical energy infrastructure. She said the economic turmoil the country now is in could provide the perfect opportunity to upgrade the inefficient system that she described as replete with bottlenecks.

“We have a lot of bottlenecks (in our electrical grid),” Eisenhower said. “It’s difficult to move excess power around the grid.”

Energy: Calling For A Modern Electrical Grid

Susan Eisenhower spoke to the West Virginia Roundtable about the need for a modern electricity grid. She was quoted in the Charleston Daily Mail:

Susan Eisenhower, a noted consultant on energy matters, said a modern electricity grid would boost the nation’s economy in numerous ways, just as the Interstate highway system, which was conceived by her grandfather – President Dwight D. Eisenhower – changed the country.

“The Interstate highway system is the pride of this country,” Eisenhower said Tuesday at a gathering of business leaders in Charleston. “It is the talk of the world. I don’t think any other country has a system quite like this. The interstate aspect is analogous to the system we’ll need for electricity.”

….The nation’s electric grid is rightfully called “the backbone of the economy,” Eisenhower said.

….Eisenhower said she believes the need for a modernized grid can be fairly characterized as an economic security issue.
